Renting Doctorate Cap & Gown from the U of M Bookstores

Academic apparel is a commencement tradition at the University of Minnesota. The University of Minnesota Bookstore is your official campus graduation source and we're here to help you celebrate your graduation in style.

The doctorate robe has the distinction of having velvet chevrons on the front panels and sleeves. These velvet chevrons can be black, Ph.D. blue, or the academic color assigned to your doctorate degree.

All rental doctorate gowns from the U of M Bookstores have black velvet chevrons.

The doctorate robe can be worn open or closed at the neck. Doctorate candidates wear:

• The traditional mortarboard cap with a black tassel
• An eight-sided velvet tam with gold tassel
• A doctorate hood

Doctorate gowns may be rented or purchased from the U of M Bookstores.

After March 22 a $10 late fee will be added to the rental prices below.

Doctoral rental apparel for fall commencement will be available for pick up at the U of M Bookstore at Coffman Memorial Union starting April 26.

(Rental orders placed after March 22 are $53.95 with late fee).

All rental orders for fall commencement must be returned no later than May 26, 2012.

Important information on your rental deposit:

• Your student account information will be retained, but not charged on rentals, unless your apparel is not returned.

• Rental apparel must be returned to the U of M Bookstores no later than three working days after the ceremony it was rented for. Rental apparel returned after that time will be charged for the full replacement value.

All rental orders for Spring Commencement must be returned no later than May 26, 2012.
